HiphoPolitico on the Road: LB's The Pike

Long Beach is home to hip hop greats: Snoop Dogg, Warren G. and Nate Dogg. It is also home to The Pike, a former diner turned seafood spot/ music venue.

The Pike is owned by the drummer of Social Distortion. It's always great to get a glimpse of a local neighborhood bar. While regulars continued their tradition, we were savoring the solid beer offering, decor, friendly hipster vibe and the funky cuts put together by Warchurch. Led by DJ Greyboy, the LB turntable band features three DJs, a keyboard player and a bass player. Behind their set a big screen played a live closeup feed of Warchurch's act. We came away with a good impression and a pint glass.

HiphoPolitico on the Road: California

A couple The Pharcyde tunes that have cemented their place in our rotations. Runnin' borrows from 1963, sampling jazz musician Stan Getz's "Saudade Vem Correndo." We can all relate to Passin Me By's storylines, hence its power to make you reminisce.
